Our Challenge: To condense the broad theme of 'citizenship and leadership' into a grass roots poster campaign that inspired students to take on strong roles in their community.
Our Solution: The posters feature an illustrative style and down to earth, yet inspirational text that show real people in leadership roles. An inviting call to action, "What can you do?" helped to connect the broad concept of leadership with our potential as individuals. Affectionately code-named, "what James and Julia did on Christmas vacation", we went completely old school, and created fifty sets of six limited edition hand-pulled two colour silkscreen posters to stand out amongst the glossy advertisements on campus.
Our Achievements: The poster campaign was a big hit at raising awareness about citizenship and leadership with students at the University of Guelph. On campus, "faculty and staff were clamouring for the entire set of six". In the summer of 2004, the campaign garnered a national award from the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services for Innovation. And as for us, we liked getting our hands off the computers and into some ink.
